چکیده

Emotion is the excited mental state of a person caused by internal and external factors. In this work, a person’s physiological parameters are measured to decide emotional status. A generalized system measures changes occurring in the body of a subject, such as heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, electro-dermal (Galvanic skin resistance) activity, and arm and leg motions. These measurements are then compared with the normal levels of the subject. The present work monitors the physiological parameters by connecting sensors at specific points on a test body. Two physiological parameters are considered: galvanic skin response (GSR) and finger tip temperature (FTT). The heart rate is predominant in deciding the emotion of a person. This system, in conjunction with a certified examiner, is used to analyze a subject’s stress. A system is constructed that measures physiological parameters along with signal conditioning units. These measurements are transmitted to a LabVIEW add-on card for further data processing and analysis. LabVIEW is a graphical programming language that includes all tools necessary for data acquisition, data analysis, and presentation of results. The results obtained are realistic and provide a measure of accuracy. DOI: 10.4018/978-1-61350-456-7.ch3.19

Analysis of Human Emotions Using Galvanic Skin Response and Finger Tip Temperature

Significant attentions have been drawn to the cooperative control of robot swarms from researchers all over the world during the past decade. This chapter mainly focuses on the shape control problem of a group of homogeneous mobile robots moving into a desired region. A novel topology design of the robot group is proposed with a multilevel-based structure, which can be utilized to construct dif...

Fusion Framework for Emotional Electrocardiogram and Galvanic Skin Response Recognition: Applying Wavelet Transform

Introduction To extract and combine information from different modalities, fusion techniques are commonly applied to promote system performance. In this study, we aimed to examine the effectiveness of fusion techniques in emotion recognition. Materials and Methods Electrocardiogram (ECG) and galvanic skin responses (GSR) of 11 healthy female students (mean age: 22.73±1.68 years) were collected ...

Affective Intelligent Car Interfaces with Emotion Recognition

In this paper, we uncover a new potential application for multi-media technologies: affective intelligent car interfaces for enhanced driving safety. We also describe the experiment we conducted in order to map certain physiological signals (galvanic skin response, heart beat, and temperature) to certain driving-related emotions and states (Frustration/Anger, Panic/Fear, and Boredom/Sleepiness)...

Detection and Classification of Emotions Using Physiological Signals and Pattern Recognition Methods

Introduction: Emotions play an important role in health, communication, and interaction between humans. The ability to recognize the emotional status of people is an important indicator of health and natural relationships. In DEAP database, electroencephalogram (EEG) signals as well as environmental physiological signals related to 32 volunteers are registered. The participants in each video we...
